Calling all Filmmakers - winning short to be shown at Darklight Film festival06 August
Calling all filmmakers to submit their ideas to make a short on Ceili Culture - Ceili Culture is a unique two day music festival featuring performances from Sharon Shannon, Shane MacGowan, Damien Dempsey, Conor Byrne, Kíla, Paddy Casey and friends. We would like you to submit your idea for a film short (max 5 mins). Two successful entries will be choosen and given all access passes to the festival - this will entitle the filmmaker access to our public music workshops during Saturday, access to both nights of the festival and selected interview time - the winning film short will be shown at the acclaimed Darklight film festival.

Music Workshops with Kila and Conor Byrne!02 August
Ceili Culture are offering you the chance to attend free music workshops taught by Kila and Conor Byrne on Saturday 14th August...learn a new instrument or improve your ability and have some fun.
Workshops are as follows:
11.00am Flute/whistle
12.30pm Bodhrán
2.00pm Uilleann Pipe

Villagers make Mercury prize shortlist!20th July
Dublin band Villagers are on the shortlist for this years Mercury Prize.
Villagers became the first Irish band to be signed to the prestigious independent label Domino Records last year. Other bands with this label include Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand and fellow Mercury Prize nominees Wild Beasts.
Conor J O Brien of the Villagers appeared on Later with Jools Holland in April and released their debut album Becoming a Jackal to critical acclaim the following month.
Becoming a Jackal went to number one in the album charts in Ireland and still remains in the top 40.
Other bands included on this years Mercury Prize include the hotly tipped The XX, Mumford and Sons, Dizzee Rascal and Paul Weller.
The annual music award was established in 1992 as an alternative to the industry-dominated Brit Awards. Previous winners have included Primal Scream, PJ Harvey, Antony and the Johnsons and Elbow.
Other Irish acts to have been nominated for the Mercury Prize over the years include Van Morrison, U2, Therapy, Lisa Hannigan and Fionn Regan.
